8 strategies that helped me become a full time podcaster.
Hey Pod Pals!
This article was lovingly curated by my real life human mind and human fingers typing on a keyboard (without the use of any AI)!
⭐️ This week we are going to talk about eight strategies that helped me become a full time podcaster in 2019.
It took me five YEARS to go from a podcast newbie with ZERO subscribers, email list, and social media followers.......to becoming a full time podcaster and online business entrepreneur.
I know that many of you are at least interested in the idea of being a full timer so I thought I would drop a few strategies that have helped me along the way.....so that you can get there faster than I did!
Strategy #1: As I worked towards being a full time podcaster I had to block off a set amount of time each week for:
⏰ Content creation
⏰ Content promotion
⏰ Creating my offers
⏰ Building my email list
I started with just 30 minutes every Tuesday afternoon to work on all of the above. Then I expanded the blocked off time to 60 minutes....then to half a day....then to a full day.....etc.
If you don't block off any time for these essential business/brand building tasks your job/family/life will consume your entire calendar and you will spin your wheels for YEARS.
Strategy #2: I created a Start Anytime Offer that:
✅ Helped solve a specific pain point of my ideal podcast listener.
✅ Listeners could purchase and get started with right away.
✅ Allowed listeners to be coached directly by me.
✅ I could charge over $500 for.
I figured out that my audience was much more likely to buy an offer that provided direct access to me....and I could charge MORE for that type of an offer.
I believe that these types of offers are even more important now in the age of AI. People aren’t going to buy your online course when they can just ask ChatGPT…but they will pay for access to YOU!
Strategy #3: I leveraged the three buckets of podcast growth to expand my audience:
🪣 Organic discovery/SEO
🪣 Effort based marketing/promo/guesting
🪣 Paid ads ($300-$500 per month)
This strategy helped me to grow my audience to over 25,000 downloads per month by 2019.
Strategy #4: I created a weekly content cadence that my audience could depend on:
➡️ New podcast episode every week on Tuesday.
➡️ A fresh newsletter every week on Thursday.
➡️ One free workshop at the end of every month.
📌 I've never missed a weekly podcast episode release since 2015.
📌 I've never missed a weekly newsletter release since 2018.
I consistently show up for my audience and they consistently show up for me.
Strategy #5: I allowed my happy clients to help sell my programs for me via testimonials on..
😎 My website
😎 Social media
😎 My podcast
You can't argue with great results....and we have to show them off consistently!
Strategy #6: I created a recurring revenue stream via a monthly membership offer which allowed me to:
✅ Have dependable monthly income.
✅ Expand my online business offer stack.
✅ Create deeper connection (and better results) with super fans.
Strategy #7: I continuously looked for opportunities to niche down.
❌ If your podcast is for "everyone....nobody will listen.
❌ If your offers are for "everyone"...nobody will buy.
Strategy #8: I had a BIG business goal of becoming a full time podcaster and I was willing to WORK for it.
📌 Too many podcasters have big BUSINESS goals...but they are putting in HOBBY level effort.
I invested FIVE YEARS of my life to achieve this dream....If I can do it...so can YOU!
🚀 Podcast Launch Tip of the week:
99% of podcasters are not being strategic enough with their podcast intro and outro audio.
It's that same, very skippable, song and dance with every episode.
I believe that strategic pattern disruptions are the KEY to creating intro and outro audio that leads to more:
➡️ Downloads
➡️ Discovery Calls
➡️ New clients
⭐️ In episode 075 of Podcast Launch Tips I do a full breakdown of my favorite strategies for my podcast intro and outro.
🤩 Client testimonial of the week: My client Lacey Baxter has a great podcast called Funnel Building Strategies for Online Business Owners.
Check out what she has to say about working with me:
"I hired Adam to help me launch my podcast. I wanted to launch with confidence. I wanted to nail the title of my show, the artwork, the description, and come up with an episode plan that I felt good about. And that is exactly what we were able to do by working together! I can't wait to watch this podcast grow. I actually got a new client from the podcast on the first day that it went live!"
